On Rainy Days

How is it that we are capable of doing  what we thought could not be done? Who are we when our willpower is depleted? What do we need to do when we’re in the midst of making a comeback?

Progress is not linear. It does not happen in a straight line, especially when the changes that you’re making are so transformational in nature that you literally have to let go of what you think about yourself to make them.

Like most people these days, I’m struggling right now with having to confront changes that should have happened a long long time ago. These can be changes in ourselves, in our relationships, and in society as a whole. That’s going to be painful, it’s going to be exhausting, and it’s also going to be worth it.

I’m being reminded that even if I fall on my face trying to move forward, I’m going to get back up and take another step forward.

You can move faster when you’ve shed a lot of weight off your shoulders. But, just like elite athletes, when you train with extra resistance (like a weighted vest or even a facemask), and the time comes for you to perform with the extra weights off, you’re not just going to move fast you’re going to fly.

It’s raining where I live this afternoon. Perhaps that put me in a mood. But, I hope you take these words to heart. Don’t give up on what you start.
