Why I write

I absolutely love to write. I have since I was a child. What I love about writing is that one way or another, a person is manifesting themselves on a bare stage. The tools are universal, and virtually everyone has access to them in the 21st century. An instrument that inks symbols and a piece of canvas. The only variable is YOU.

Writing is not necessarily about knowing exactly what it is you want to say. Most of the time, when I start to write – I don’t know where I’ll end up going. I seem to circle around the things that are interesting to me though, the things that I notice, the things that affect me, the things I realize. Most of the time, my core intention is to not bore myself.

Every once in a while, I’ll surprise myself. I’ll open a door to a room that I’ve never walked through, but feels familiar. I’ll try my best to describe what I see.

When I don’t write, things are not right in my life. I know that much about myself now. I need to write to stay grounded. This is running the risk of becoming a totally semantic blog post, so I will conclude by saying simply; you can write your way out of (almost) everything.
